Imagine being a new choson, wanting to build a home based on Torah – but no kollel will accept you. Not because of your learning level or your diligence – but because there’s simply no room.

That is what has been happening to hundreds of newlyweds in Beitar Illit. There simply aren’t enough kollelim for all the avreichim Can you imagine how frustrating that is? How can new couples manage to build a Torah home without any structure, any kollel income?

That is why askanim from Karlin Stolin established Kollel Kinyan Shas over two years ago – to give these avreichim a solid kollel where they could learn and grow. In the beginning, all we could provide was the meager government stipend, but at least our avreichim would have a true Torah structure where they could soar in learning.

Very quickly, our kollel grew in size and popularity. We became known for our high-level learning, intense Gemara sedarim and weekly written exams.

However, our avreichim were struggling financially…. Im ain kemach, ain Torah.

So we raised the kollel stipend to 1000 shekel a month. Where would the money come from? We didn’t know – but we knew our avreichim needed the money. Every month, we rely on more miracles to cover the Kollel’s budget.

Currently, we have a long waiting list, over double the current size of our kollel.  But we have been unable to accept anyone, much as we’d like to. We’re struggling just to cover the salaries of our current avreichim. That’s why we’re embarking on a major expansion campaign.
